Mpumalanga College of Nursing 2026 Applications for Diploma in Nursing

The Mpumalanga Department of Health has announced that applications are now open for the Diploma in Nursing (R.171) – 2026 intake at the Mpumalanga College of Nursing (MCoN). 

This intake gives aspiring nurses a chance to take their first formal step into the healthcare sector. The programme is aimed at young South Africans, particularly recent Matriculants and youth aged 18 to 36, who are passionate about building a future in nursing and serving their communities through quality healthcare.

Requirements: Who Can Apply?

Only applicants who meet all of these requirements will be considered:

• Must have a matric/ senior certificate qualifying for diploma/degree studies.

• English: minimum level 4 (HG D/SG C).

• Life Sciences (Biology/Physiology): minimum level 4 (HG E/SG D).

• Mathematics: at least level 3 (HG E/SG D) or Maths Literacy: level 5 or higher.

• Physical Science, Agriculture or Geography: at least level 3 (HG E/SG D).

• Minimum Admission Point Score (APS): 23 (best 6 subjects, excluding Life Orientation).

• Must be a South African citizen and resident of Mpumalanga Province.
  
  

Note: ABET and certificates not registrable with the SA Nursing Council are not accepted. Applicants with disabilities will only be considered where it does not affect nursing duties.

What Successful Applicants Must Do:

If accepted, you will be required to:

• Sign an agreement/contract with the Mpumalanga Department of Health.

• Attend both theory classes and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) at accredited health facilities.

During the interview stage, applicants must present:

• Original Matric certificate (sent to Umalusi for verification).

• Certified copy of ID (not older than 3 months).

• Proof of residence from your local municipality or traditional council.
