Applications are now open for several government internship programmes in South Africa for 2025. These opportunities are aimed at students and recent graduates who want to start their careers in public service.

1. Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA) – Supply Chain Graduate Intern

This programme is designed to give graduates a solid understanding of how social housing and public sector operations function, while earning a monthly stipend.

Available Internships

1. Supply Chain Management Intern

• Location: Johannesburg

• Duration & Stipend: 24 months, R11,172.49/month

• Qualifications: Grade 12 plus National Diploma (NQF 6) or Bachelor’s (NQF 7) in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Purchasing Management

• Key Responsibilities: Handle contracts, tenders, purchase orders, compliance with PFMA/PPPFA, assist in document management, and support internal and external stakeholders

• Skills Gained: Contract management, compliance, attention to detail, Microsoft Office proficiency, and stakeholder engagement
  
  

2. Sector Development & Transformation Intern

• Location: Johannesburg

• Duration & Stipend: 24 months, R11,172.49/month

• Qualifications: Grade 12 plus National Diploma/Bachelor’s (NQF 6–7) in Built Environment, Business Management, or related fields
  

• Key Responsibilities: Assist with social housing development projects, support transformation initiatives, coordinate activities with internal teams and external partners
  

• Skills Gained: Project coordination, communication, Microsoft Office, understanding of social housing frameworks
  
  

3. Legal Intern (2 positions)

• Location: Johannesburg
  
  

• Duration & Stipend: 24 months, R11,172.49/month

• Qualifications: Grade 12 plus LLB or equivalent

• Key Responsibilities: Support litigation processes, draft contracts and correspondence, review legal documents, assist with legal research, and ensure proper contract execution

• Skills Gained: Legal research, contract management, document drafting, ethics and integrity, teamwork, and attention to detail

2. South African Council for Educators (SACE) – Communications & Registration Internships

The South African Council for Educators (SACE) is opening applications for its 2025 internship programme in communication and registration functions, contributing to the advancement of educator professionalism.

Available Positions

1. Communication Intern – Centurion, Gauteng

• Qualifications: Honours Degree in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, or PR

• Duration & Remuneration: 24 months, R7,500/month

• Role: Support communication initiatives, manage media content, and assist with internal and external messaging
  
  

2. Registration Intern – Polokwane, Limpopo

• Qualifications: Diploma in Management, Office Management, or Public Management

• Duration & Remuneration: 24 months, R5,000/month

• Role: Help manage educator registrations, maintain records, and support policy implementation

3. City of Johannesburg Internships for Student 2025

For 2025, the City of Johannesburg’s Social Development Department is opening its doors to students and graduates from the local community, giving them a chance to get involved in meaningful projects and learn how municipal programmes operate.

Internship Opportunities:

1. Food Value Chain Internship

Duration: Up to 18 months
Remuneration: R10,109.86 per month (basic salary, no benefits)

• Qualifications: Grade 12/NQF Level 4 plus a Diploma or Degree in Agriculture, Development Studies, or related fields
  

• What You’ll Do: Support farmers to move from basic agricultural practice to value-added products, assist with food processing, quality standards, and SABS/HACCP compliance. Interns will help plan agricultural market days, implement food value chain projects, and collaborate with local partners.
  
  

Skills You’ll Learn: Marketing, stakeholder mobilization, project management, research, monitoring and evaluation

2. Youth Coordination Internship

Location: Traduna Building, Johannesburg
Duration: Up to 18 months
Remuneration: R10,109.86 per month (basic salary, no benefits)

• Qualifications: Grade 12/NQF Level 4 plus BA Degree in Development Studies or Social Sciences (NQF Level 7)
  

• What You’ll Do: Assist with youth development programmes, provide administrative support, coordinate initiatives, and engage with internal and external stakeholders to deliver youth empowerment services.
  
  

Skills You’ll Learn: Community development practices, report writing, coordinating programmes, communication, and basic computer literacy
