KZN College of Nursing (KZNCN) has opened applications for the Diploma in Nursing (R171) for the 2026 academic year. This public nursing college is run by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health and is fully recognized by SANC, CHE, SAQA, and DHET.
With 11 campuses and sub-campuses across the province, KZNCN gives students the chance to study close to home while preparing for a career as a professional nurse.
Programs Offered At KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing
KZNCN provides a range of nursing programs to cater to different career aspirations:
Diploma in Nursing (R171): A three-year full-time program leading to a qualification registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the Diploma in Nursing (R171) program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Academic Qualifications:

National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a Diploma/Bachelor endorsement.

Minimum 25 APS points, calculated according to the approved point system.

Passes in the following subjects:

English (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4

Life Sciences: Level 4
-
Mathematics: Level 3 or Mathematics Literacy: Level 4

Life Orientation: Level 4
-
Two other subjects to bring the total APS score to 27 or higher.
Additional Requirements:

Must be a South African citizen.

Must reside in KZNl Province.

Clear criminal record.

Proof of residence in KwaZulu-Natal (e.g., utility bill or affidavit).
